International Panel: Open standards, conformance and interoperability

22 Apr 2026
Conference Theatre
Policy and regulation- Spectrum access

This panel examines the role of open standards in ensuring end-user capability, interoperability and long-term sustainability in mission-critical communications. It will discuss the current narrowband, broadband and non-terrestrial standards landscape, and how these standards are evolving into practical, commercialised solutions. The session will also address how conformance, certification and testing frameworks are enabling a competitive, multi-vendor ecosystem while supporting interoperability across networks, technologies and borders.

Key themes

  • Standards evolution across technologies: Progress across narrowband standards (TETRA, P25, DMR, PDT) and broadband and non-terrestrial standards, including 3GPP developments and interworking functions.
  • From standards to deployment: Translating standards into deployable, interoperable mission-critical solutions through testing, validation and industry collaboration.
  • Conformance and certification: The role of global certification and interoperability frameworks, including MCX certification, server-to-server interoperability and plug-testing initiatives.
